Miri Shapiro has graduated The London Film School, MA Program, in the UK in 2008. Miri moved back to Israel where she received a grant for Excellency in art by the Israeli ministry of immigrant's absorption. She participated in the 2009 Berlinale Talent Campus of the Berlin Film Festival and is currently in advance stages of development of a full length feature-film.
In her work Miri is motivated by personal stories in the shadow of events; individual versus her/his society, religion or political reality.
For her film '4 Kilometers' she was awarded a grant by National-Geographic "All Roads Film Project", which was followed by 6 other awards in international film festivals, amongst them is the prestigious New Asian Force Grand Prize of the Hong Kong Independent Short Film Awards.
It is a short fiction film featuring a morning in the life of a 15 year old Bedouin girl on the edge of womanhood, setting out on a journey that will enable her to let go of the life she once wished for. In her previous film "Kallah (Bride)" she captures the struggle of a young orthodox Jewish woman going through the religious rituals of becoming a "Kosher Jewish Bride". Her films were screened in over 40 international film festivals across the world. |
