| Omri Marcus |
Omri Marcus was involved in the development and writing of almost every satire and humor show on Israeli TV over the past ten years. His biggest success was a show called Eretz Nehederet (What a Wonderful Country) where he worked as a writer in charge of current affairs. The show enjoyed regular ratings of over 30% and won 4 Israeli Academy Awards for best writing and Best TV Program. A survey conducted before recent elections revealed that the show was the most significant factor in the decision-making processes of young voters (18-34) and a major factor among the general population regarding which party they elected.
Two years ago Marcus was hired by Israel's leading TV network, Channel 2, to serve as a director in the programming and development department. Marcus started his career as a writer in 1999, in a weekly satirical column that was published in Maariv, Israel's second-largest daily newspaper. At present, Marcus is a senior writer in Israel's leading late night show and writes regularly for the Huffington Post about Israeli political and social issues. In his spare time Marcus volunteers in ONE VOICE, a peace organization that conducts cultural events with Arabs and Jews. He is also in charge of PR for Eye from Zion - a philanthropic organization that performs free medical surgeries in third world countries. In April 2009 the Entertainment Master Class (EMC), the Format Academy for Entertainment Television, awarded Marcus its prestigious scholarship, following a competition held during the MIPTV Content Market in Cannes, France. Marcus was selected from a pool of tens of candidates from around the world, by a panel of EMC faculty members. |
