| Hill Harper Guest of Tala MC in Tel Aviv |
The TALA MC hosted actor and author Hill Harper at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque for a prologue workshop with the kind assistance of the American Embassy in Israel.
Hill Harper, a TV and movie actor portraying the familiar role of Dr. Sheldon Hawkes on CSI: NY for the past 6 seasons is also an award winning author. Hill faced a captivated audience of writers, directors, actors, producers and musicians, the 2010 participants of the Master Class and alumni members to reveal his passion and his craft. "The actor's journey", said Hill, "is to carve your own path" yet collaborations are empowering, enabling one to find his voice through a cacophony of voices.Meeting people, even on twitter, can help form creative alliances and even global professional relationships. Meeting new and creative people should always be our goal. Hill seemed to enjoy a screening of a clip from Spike Lee's Get on the Bus, and commented immediately: "Spike Lee helped my career tremendously, he's been instrumental, and not only for me, but for many young actors, especially black actors. My first big movie was Spike's Get on the Bus." When asked about specific inspiration Hill said: "I want to be involved in projects that lift up the human condition. I have turned down a lot of projects that didn't get in line with this set of beliefs". As an actor "I'm a huge researcher." Said Hill who strongly believes that an actor should act every day, a director should direct everyday, and a writer, write. Regarding his future plans Hill, who is also making his first steps as a producer, had this to say: "I still haven't found my once in a lifetime role, a role in a canvas movie. And I still haven't done a historic character role. I'd like to do it all." Hill discussed the role of the writer, and the screenplay as the key component of the film. Trying, and very successfully so, to encourage the young filmmakers ahead of the Tel Aviv Los Angeles Master Class to take place on June 18-25, Hill told them to "always be positive, don't say "I'm thinking of maybe making a movie in Israel", say "I'm making a movie!" Hill concluded that "we are all one family, a creative family. We work with the same equipment, we deal with the same issues of love, and loss, and creative connections can come out of nowhere, you just need to be alert and keep your eyes open when they come." We are taking your advice, thank you Hill Harper.
